Description of Position
The Special Education Aide/Para will work with a student who has emotional, educational, and behavioral goals, one-on-one, and in small groups. The aide will assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefits for students. This position requires an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude towards students of varied temperaments and abilities, particularly those exhibiting specialized needs.
Experience and Education
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Training or experience that clearly demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities detailed below is required.
Works with an individual student to reinforce learning of materials and skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.
Assists the certified special education staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
Monitors instruction, work, activities, and behavior of students as assigned by the certified special education staff.
Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the certified special education staff.
Alerts the certified special education staff to any problem or special information about an individual student or students.
Performs assigned supervision of a student during lunch periods, play periods, and on fieldwork, as assigned by the certified special education staff.
Performs assigned non-instructional classroom duties as assigned by certified special education staff.
When requested, serves as a resource person to the General Education Team.
Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about student’s in -school environment and community.
Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
Performs other such duties/assignments as directed by the certified special education staff, in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined.
Up to 29 hour a week
Working days follow school calendar
