1st/2nd Grade Teacher 2023-2024 School Year (Full Time)

Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning is searching for teachers who are capable and confident enough to build and support learning experiences that put the child in charge of their own learning. This means less teacher-talk and more student-talk, hands-on, real-world authentic tasks, and the upholding of high expectations for every student. In the Expeditionary Learning model, teachers collaborate closely with team members to create Expeditions, thematic units that last 1/2 of the school year, and strive to teach the Utah Core standards often through the lens of the Expedition. Our multi-age classrooms are active, collaborative and alive with authentic learning. An instructional aide in every classroom helps to support the active nature of our students' learning. Salaries, health benefits, 401k, and classroom budgets are competitive.

Teachers can also expect to spend much more time outside the classroom, in the field, working with students. Fieldwork is essential to the practice of Expeditionary Learning. Teachers will be able to attend Expeditionary Learning training sessions. Any teacher considering employment at Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning should become familiar with our charter at http://www.promontoryschool.org.
