Job Description

We are seeking a SPED director to join our team at Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning. We are a K-8 public charter school in Perry, UT. Teachers here enjoy a very dynamic learning and teaching environment. Students participate in semester-long, hands-on learning expeditions through which many core standards are taught. Students learn in multi-age classrooms. Special Education is also dynamic and carefully individualized. Student success is paramount. Promontory is seeking a SPED director with a vision of student led education, attention to detail, a growth mindset, and an ability to be a great thinker and problem solver. The SPED director will be expected to oversee the education of students with physical, emotional and academic learning disabilities. The SPED director must have a knowledge of the Child Find process including MTSS. The SPED director will lead team meetings, attend state and LEA training, oversee and assist in writing IEPs and determining eligibility, have an understanding of FAPE and LRE. The SPED director will oversee SPED teacher caseloads and para educator training and meet with the MTSS specialist as students move through the intervention process. The qualified candidate will have current experience in effective instruction, special education law, IEP development, assessment, behavior management, records management and parent involvement. The qualified candidate will be eligible for a Utah educator license in special education.


Job Qualifications

All teachers hired by Promontory shall have completed a bachelor’s degree at an approved higher education institution and hold an appropriate license with areas of concentration and endorsements as approved by the Utah State Office of Education. (See R277-510, R277-520, and R277-524), or shall be on track to complete the Alternative Route to Licensure as outlined in rule R277-503. All teachers hired by Promontory shall have an appropriate criminal background check before employment at the school per statute 53A-3-410.

Experience with EL Learning, Lucy Calkins's "Units of Study" and/or Eureka Math is a significant advantage.
